Here's my take on today's big game....
How could one not pull for the boys in red? They have struggled unsuccessfully to climb to the top of the league for decades. This year offers their best chance to finally reach the pinnacle and longtime fans are holding their breaths for today's matchup.
Since it's already 9pm in Ukraine, I'll tell you how it ends.
The Reds scored twice in the final minutes to defeat......
...the billionaires of Chelski.Today was the second meeting this year of these 2 powerhouse sides. Liverpool won last time at Stanford Bridge - halting their record-breaking undefeated home streak.
This time, back in Liverpool Fernando Torres scored twice in stoppage time to break a scoreless game against the 10-man Blues. It was torturous to follow it online but luckily Tammi was actually in the grounds and gave me updates over mobile facebook. It was an awesome victory that broke a run of draws and bad form. What a relief......
What, you thought I was talking about the Super Bowl?? Tomorrow morning check which game had more viewers.

ReplyDeleteWhat the heck? I've been a fan of the sport for years and Tammi beats me to a real game. Rubbish! You know I say that out of complete jealousy. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the win! Assuming United win their game in hand (which they should), they'll be 5 points ahead. Obviously it's not impossible, but it's a tall order considering how they're playing right now. They haven't conceded a league goal in 12 games!

Also, regarding the numbers of viewers of this game versus the Super Bowl, I don't think we'll ever know. Ratings isn't an exact science, and everything else will just be estimates. The World Cup Final seems to be the consensus most watched event in the world with the Super Bowl a little farther behind that but ahead of the Champions League Final (as far as events measured). Since a single match probably isn't measured like these other big events we'll probably never know. Point is you could be right but it's just going to be a matter of opinion and estimates.
ReplyDeleteFor example, I'm a much bigger fan of the EPL but I didn't watch the game or tape it because I was at church (and neither did you b/c of access). However, I've watching the Super Bowl right now. It's the opposite of what you'd think. It's just not enough of an exact science to be able to know.
Soccer is the world's most popular sport, and the World Cup Final is supposedly the most watched sporting event in the world (common sense would support that). The EPL is the most watched league (according to many studies/estimates)...so one would think that a game between 2 top teams would draw big numbers. How big (really)? Take a guess. Watched more then the Super Bowl? Maybe.

ReplyDeleteI think the Superbowl has more TVs tuned to it, but the world cup may have more 'bums in seats' as it were. How can you account for 200 people in a village crowded around one television?
