Tax Refund

The other day I was looking at our bank account and I noticed an odd deposit for $1271.80.  Being as it wasn't payday and that would be roughly twice my normal paycheck anyway, I guessed that this was a special occasion.  And it certainly was...

Uncle Sam decided to give us back some of our hard earned money as part of a economic stimulus tax refund.  With a little prompting Cam was excited too.

  2. Yes, excellent - although I'm confident the intent of the stimulous package wasn't to dump $1200 into the Ukrainian economy, but the wife and I used most of ours buying stuff made in China (actually paid bills) - either way, great fiscal policy from conservative republicans! God bless Visa, Discover, Mastercard, God bless America!

  3. Woo and hoo are actually Chinese for "show me the money"!

Getting down to the nitty gritty, that isn't your tax stimulus refund. That's your normal refund for 2007. If you and Sarah both worked, you're going to get an even $1500. If it was only you who worked and filed, you'll get $900 ($600 per person and $300 for Cam). We already got our $1500. I just wanted to let you know that you should be getting another deposit from the IRS.

  6. Mark,
Clearly I don't think the goal of the economic stimulus is to stimulate the Ukrainian economy but I if people in the states use it the same way that we do (maybe a short vacation this summer, a few articles of clothes, pay off some debt, etc), it should have exactly the desired effect. I agree there is nothing more conservative than getting the government's hands out of our pockets...even if it's a little belated.

    Aaron,
This can't be our regular refund because we got that more than a month ago. Plus it wasn't NEARLY that much. I suspect that the amount is altered somewhat since Sarah was only working part-time in 2007, but that's just a guess.

  7. Ok, my bad then. I just never thought someone would get dollars and pennies, but if she just worked a tad then it makes sense. Good old Uncle Vlad to the rescue. I think in the end we'll use ours for some bedroom furniture. We've been married almost 5 years with nothing but a bed! I think we something for a nightstand and at least something better then Walmart bins for our clothes. :)
